Jewellery Photographed by Kiran Unes

I collaborated with photographer Kiran Unes to photograph my jewellery collection for the look book. I was aware that the images I was taking (people wearing the piece whilst doing an activity like making tea etc) may show a restricted view of the jewellery and I felt a clear one of each item was needed.

The look book featured a colour image taken by myself partnered with one of these black and white photographs and I believe they worked well together on the double page.
Hopefully the look book will be made viewable online soon...

Rules of Adornment

On the evening of Friday 29th, me and mum went to the event 'Rules of Adornment' at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.

Related to the Pearls exhibition, which explores the history of the natural pearl and their symbolism, currently on at the museum this event was to make us all question why we choose to wear what we do. Even though I make a lot of jewellery I have previously never thought of the role that my bracelets and necklaces have on a person accept for aesthetic value. So this enjoyable evening was quite thought provoking!

  • Why do we adorn ourselves with jewellery, accessories, technology and tattoos?
  • What is the role for adornment in popular culture?
  • Is it about status or personal expression?
  • What meanings are communicated and concealed through the language of body adornment across different cultural backgrounds.
Adornment= something that beautifies,  adorns or decorates; an ornament.

Jewellery Inspiration: Judy Blame

I first came across Judy Blame's eye catching collage-like jewellery/ accessories in the Summer 2013 issue of iD magazine which featured a photo shoot mixing both male and female fashion under the title:
be an
individual  go
against the
grain  stand
up speak up
be brave
dont forget
this is who you are

Items from Judy Blame ranged from hats and scarves, necklaces, stickers and brooches, corset, belt clip, ring, cape, T-shirt, bra and tie.

I like that he has created dramatically strong, graphic, statement jewellery for both males and females.

The Daring Daisy

Hi I am Shona Coyne and The Daring Daisy is the brand that I have created to express my creative visions.
When I was 13 I set up my first stall selling my handmade bracelets and continued my early tradition of Christmas cards. I have developed these young business dreams into my brand which is now The Daring Daisy which envisions taking that daring step to follow your creative wishes but still remains close to my original ideas signed by the little drawing of the smiling girl with high pigtails!

I have been making products from:
  • Jewellery-  Bracelets
  • Sunglasses
  • ACCESSORIES
  • Occasion Cards
  • Decorated Boxes

But this year after taking a Foundation Art Course at Coventry University I have had more outrageous ideas which I am currently working on.  Exciting!!  So stay posted!!
